Uruguay has quite a few places with a lot of character. It still feels like lacking behind the rest of the western world by 20 years or so. That gap used to much larger stil luntil ten years or so. Then one felt like stepping out of the plane right into a movieset with all those vintage cars driving around. The Uruguayans never really marketed that atmosphere, not the way Cuba markets itself with their derelict streets and their vintage cars.
Anyhow, Uruguay is modernising. But a slight air of being forgotten by the rest of the world remains to this day – here and there.
We drive around a lot, shooting photos of Uruguay, we work in Uruguay real estate, and often we think we are in a movie shooting location.

- Miami Vice, the 2006 movie, was taken at Atlantida, close to Montevideo, Atlantida acting as Vedado / Havana de Cuba,
- Uruguayan production "El ultimo tren"
- "Blindness", an international 2008 production, with Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Danny Glover, Alice Braga, partly shot in Montevideo (Ciudad Vieja).
