Tornero

Estate and mansion date from the turn of the century. The 2nd volume of "Antiguas Estancias de Uruguay" dedicates a chapter to it.

Tornero is indeed one of the few estancias that receive guests and is still principally a cattle ranch and not a tourist venture, which makes the experience of a stay more like being a friend of the family coming for a visit.
Embedded in a landscape very typical for central Uruguay, gently rolling grassland, wide open, dotted by Eucalyptus tree parcels providing shade for livestock and traversed by the occasional small stream, the ranch consists of some 800 hectare land.

Tornero breeds Criollo horses, so you always see some strolling around and of course there is a great selection for a horse ride.

Tornero has 4 guestrooms, some with open fireplace. Accommodation includes full board
Minimum stay : 3 nights
owners are not marketing their service in any way and run the guest operation rather low key, it is therefore advisable to call ahead and check if they are indeed receiving guests.

Stays on guest ranches are not cheap, reflecting the time and attention dedicated by the owners, US$150-250 per person per day full board including horse riding might serve as an aproximate idea.
